Week 12

Social Networking in Libraries for client interaction, marketing and networking opportunities is endless. What a wonderful tool to reach people about the Library it is an online newsletter where we can reach everyone to promote the Library services, children's area and activities, book reviews with interaction between clients, showcase storytime, holiday programs, author visits and exhibitions.

Week 11

Google Docs in the Library will make it a lot faster to communicate with other Librarians within the Riverina Regional Libraries as meeting notes can be received and changed instantly by all. Proof reading of Library newsletters and newspaper articles by our manager will be responded to much quicker and alterations can be made at a faster rate. This will save a lot of time and emails going back and forth between people.

Week 10

Mashups are great fun and could be used in the Library to promote our resources. Big Huge Labs had great ideas to experiment with. I could spend lots of time with Mashups.

Week 9

Podcasting is a great medium for people to listen to or watch. interested listeners or watchers can receive updates through RSS when new content is posted.

Examples of this in the Library would be to record Talking Books, Children's Storytime, Author Visits and lectures. It would be useful in the teaching of technology ie: computer courses.

Podcasts whether it be Audio or Video is a quick and convenient way of transferring information to your computer, or other mediums such as an MP3 Player or Video Player.

Week 8

The answer boards gives Librarians the opportunity to receive questions and answer questions. Borrowers would think this is a fabulous way of reviewing and or rating books they read through using stars, comments etc.

Answer boards are a great way of people becoming more aware of Libraries and sharing information. Libraries could have a link on their web to talk on line to borrowers during opening hours.

Week 7

http://del.icio.us/

Tagging and Social Bookmarking are useful means for anyone on the web to access information and to utilise their information. It helps to organise, retrieve and share online resources.

Library Thing allows you to create your own personal online catalogue of books, Rate and categorise (tag) books you have read. Find new books to read by similar authors or on similar topics. Get book recommendations. Interact with people who enjoy the same reading interests. You can check out other people's libraries, see who has the most similar library to yours and swap reading suggestions.

In Libraries for example a student may wish to look for information on a project ie: Japan other useful information which has been tagged by other students can then be accessed.

Week 6

I enjoyed looking at the Google Video more so than Youtube. Saw heaps of possibilities to use Google Video within a library, Great fun looking at the different activities happening within the Mosman Library.

Youtube or Google Video would be a useful tool to promote the library and the services that we provide. Examples would be Storytime, Author Visits, Exhibitions, Visual display of our collection of fiction, non fiction books, DVD's, magazines, picture books, westerns, reference material. We could promote what services are available in our technology room of the library, including computers, photocopier, playstation, etc.

Youtube or Google Video would be beneficial to members who were unable to come into the Library. They could listen to a Video of a visiting Author or watch a video of an exhibition in the comfort of their own home.

Week 5

I found looking at the wiki sites very interesting and the presentation quite different by each of the sites.

I believe that wiki would work well within libraries as libraries are able to share information and ideas with one another through links and useful websites.

Working with other Libraries to arrange an Author Visit would be lot easier than using emails.
Wiki for the Library would be good for book reviews and comments

Wiki however is not always accurate because information can be added or deleted by anyone.

Week 4

For Libraries it will make it so much quicker to use RSS as the information that we are requesting will come to us instead of searching for the information. Favourite sites are constantly checked and blogs for new content.

It is a good online way to promote the library and keeping clients up to date with the latest news and technology within the Library by sharing information.

Sites selected were the Powerhouse Museums Photo of the Day, The Shifted Librarian, BBC News, Bloglines News and National Geographic News: Animals & Nature and used Bloglines for my RSS Reader

Week 3

.Loved the photo of the Library Lovers day at the Mosman Library and enjoyed looking at all the different tags associated with the Library

Henty Sand Dunes and Henty River are in Tasmania and not in our small community of Henty in NSW

What a beautiful photo of the autumn colours of the trees, shrubs and the snow capped mountain and the fantastic reflection of these in the still water of the lake

Libraries belonging to a Regional Library can use Flickr to Group Photos. Each Library could add to the photos showing their town's history and would be great to run photo competitions

Flickr will be useful in sharing photos of library resources, collections, promotions, events and equipment.

Week 2

I hope to learn heaps as I explore the journey of Web 2.0 and how best to gain information and learn different ways in which to communicate with other people

Lifelong Learning is important with ever changing technology this will give me the opportunity to learn about the way in which Libraries can benefit from all the new web sites available . This will then give me the confidence to help library users with such applications as Flickr, Wikis, Mashups and Blogger to name a few.

The blogs of the Sutherland Shire Library News and the ACT Public Library Blog are very well presented, interesting and informative and unique to each library and that's what I like about it you can add your own individual touch to the blog.

Blogging provides us with valuable information that we can contribute to and access. Libraries can promote collections, events, resources and exhibitions and can be used professionally between staff and other Libraries. Blogging I can see will be great to use within the Library
